Hardy leads record-setting day for Aggies at AandM 10-Team Invitational - Aggie Sports: Track And FieldPublished by
A little sickness didn’t keep Prezel Hardy Jr. from breaking the Texas A&M mark for the indoor 60-meters on Saturday at the A&M 10-Team Invitational.
Truth be told though if it was up to Hardy, Gerald Phiri would still hold the school record. “I didn’t have a choice. I kept thinking maybe if I run this one well, coach will call it quits,” Hardy said. “I said that about prelims, about the finals and then sure enough I hear, ‘Come on P.J. you have to line up for the 200.’ I was in the back throwing up, in and out of the bathroom, taking medicine to try and feel a little bit better so I could go one more race. I was miserable the whole day.” Hardy, a senior, ran a 6.56 to win the 60 and set the school mark of 6.59, which Phiri ran four times. “You are not going to feel good all the time and I told him nobody gets sick at the Olympic Games, somebody gets sick, but nobody knows it,” A&M coach Pat Henry said. “You compete all your life to get there. This was a rehearsal for that kind of occurrence and you’ve got to withstand some sickness and put up with some things. If you are injured that is different but a little bit sick, you just got to do what you got to do to get a performance and that’s what he did.” Read the full article at: www.aggiesports.com
